SEND review

LOCAL AREA SEND

I offer a range of support to local areas to help leaders ensure effective implementation of the SEND reforms. The support provided is tailored to the local area's specific needs. Below are examples of the types of support I can provide.

Desk top analysis of Local area SEND performance data.

This results in the production of a short summary analysis and proposed lines of enquiry for further exploration. Preparation will entail an initial discussion with the LA leader responsible, to agree any local area data that will be included as part of the review in addition to that publicly available. The findings and recommendations from the desk top analysis will be shared with the leader by telephone. A short report will be sent through within 2 days of the review.

Desk top analysis of Local area SEND performance data + facilitation of a workshop with key leaders and stakeholder to explore the data and consider implications and next steps.

Preparation will entail an initial discussion with the LA leader responsible, to agree any local area data that will be included as part of the review in addition to that publicly available. The date, timings and attendees for the workshop/meeting will be agreed. The LA providing the venue and making the arrangements. A short report will be produced and sent through within 2 days of the meeting/workshop.

Bespoke supportive review

In advance of the first day of the review, the exact purpose and focus of the review will be explored with the leader/s responsible for commissioning it. The review method and process will be provisionally agreed. This will be followed by further scoping and communication by email to finalise the plan for the review including dates, time, the aim, purpose and suggested attendees for each meeting / activity which forms part of the review.

The review would typically take place over a period of 1-3 days, as agreed with the local area.
A report on the key findings and recommendations would be produced following the review.

Extended review activities

This can include site visits to a sample range of settings, to meet providers and children and young people.
A typical visit might include the following:
• a meeting with senior leaders and those responsible for SEND
• a meeting with parents/carers
• a meeting with children and /or young people.

Review follow up work

This can range from dissemination of review findings to key internal and external stakeholders to work supporting the local area in responding to recommendations from the review.
